Peter Boardman: a tribute
Steve Crowther has written a short tribute to Peter Boardman, who died recently. Peter was the Director of Late Music from 2009 until 2017, who guided its conversion from a music festival to a concert series.
Composer of the Month
Nick Williams composed 1520 Sedgewick Avenue — “a celebration of the creativity and anger of early hip hop” — to be performed at the exciting lunchtime concert featuring Spelk on 7 May 2022. Interviewed by fellow composer Steve Crowther, Williams describes the unusual nature of that concert’s programme, his background, how he works and reveals which pieces of music he’d select for that Desert Island
Review: Gemini (October 2021)
Paul Conway has written an extensive review of Late Music’s October evening concert, featuring Gemini, which included premieres of pieces by Sadie Harrison and Morag Galloway. Of Harrison’s Fire in Song, he notes “this work made a strong impression on disc, but seeing it performed live was an even more affecting experience”. You can experience that difference yourself at one of our concerts!
Listen: Podcast Interview series
In a series of podcasts on our revitalised “Listen” page, composer Hayley Jenkins interviews Late Music performers and fellow composers about pieces performed at this season’s Late Music concerts. Just added (4 May 2022): Hayley interviews saxophonist Chris Caldwell, a founder of the Delta Saxophone Quartet, about the programme for the Delta’s Late Music evening concert on Saturday 7th May 2022.
