Education outreach offer
This Saturday we have a piano recital featuring virtuoso pianist Ian Pace playing a programme of fugues from Bach, Schumann, Shostakovich to the present day. As part of our education outreach programme, we are offering music teachers a two-for-one ticket deal for the recital. We will offer a complimentary ticket if the music teacher is accompanied by at least one of their pupils (tickets just £5). Please contact Steve at firstname.lastname@example.org if this is of interest. Please note that there is a pre-concert talk at 6.45 plus a complimentary glass of mulled wine + mince pie.
Composer of the Month
Jenny Jackson composed Pacemaker, a musical race against time, written for pianist Ian Pace, who will give its first performance at the evening concert on 4th December. Interviewed by fellow composer Steve Crowther, she describes the piece, her own background, how she works and reveals which pieces of music she’d select for that Desert Island.
Origins of Late Music: Soundpool
The evening concert on 4th December featuring pianist Ian Pace includes five short piano pieces (“Fragments”) composed by Anthony Adams, one of the founders of the predecessor to York Late Music: Soundpool. In an article on this website, he gives the history of Soundpool and contemporary music in York, and also discusses the pieces.
New interview series
In a new series of podcasts on our revitalised “Listen” page, composer Hayley Jenkins interviews Late Music performers and fellow composers about pieces performed at this season’s Late Music concerts. An interview with Jenny Jackson has just been added.
