Jennifer Cohen (flute) and Mark Hutchinson (piano)
October 7 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
As we approach the winter months, Jennifer Cohen and Mark Hutchinson — two of York’s most exciting soloists — trace a global journey through night to dawn.
Roxanna Panufnik and New Zealander John Elmsly took inspiration from the poetry of Dylan Thomas for their works, while Brazilian composer Lourdes Saraiva’s Night View evokes a triptych print by Utagawa Hiroshige. David Lancaster’s recent solo flute piece explores ‘the soft threshold between sound and silence’, before Ian Clarke’s acclaimed Orange Dawn depicts a rising sun in East Africa. Striking works by prodigy Lili Boulanger frame this evocative programme.
Lili Boulanger: Nocturne (1911)
John Elmsly: Go Gently into the Good Night (1998)
Lourdes Saraiva: Night View (2011)
Roxanna Panufnik: The Conversation of Prayer for solo flute (2006)
Peter Sculthorpe: Night Pieces for solo piano (1971)
